LONDON stocks marked the end of a volatile week with a period of calm, the FTSE 100 index rising just six points at 5677.6. Triple witching hour, the brief trading window for funds to square the outstanding futures and options on their books, was unusually quiet with dealers suggesting many hedge funds had been forced to close dangerous short positions earlier in the week.
