TONY Blair's favourite teacher, Sir Eric Anderson, will be 72 in May and it's thought the time may be coming for him to lay down his mortarboard as Provost of Eton. Although he could continue until he's 75, thus completing a decade in the job, a clear favourite is emerging in the race to succeed him. Step forward Lord (William) Waldegrave, former Health Secretary and Minister of Agriculture, who is now a Fellow of Eton and a Fellow of All Souls, Oxford, and vice chairman and managing director of UBS bank.
At 61, Waldegrave is the right age for the job, compared with another well-qualified Eton Fellow, Lord (Douglas) Hurd, who is 78. As a boy, Waldegrave had a distinguished career at Eton, winning a scholarship and becoming President of Pop.See the full content of this document
