HARD to know what constitutes a "decent" life (a summer not ruined by perpetual rain perhaps?) but according to a recent survey, [pounds]13,400 is the basic yearly income needed to attain one. Having never knowingly turned down a challenge, I did some sums and surmised that, after my rent and bills, such a five-figure amount whittles down to [pounds]17 a day.
