CHELSEA today took a major step forward in the battle to win compensation from disgraced former striker Adrian Mutu.

The club, owned by Roman Abramovich, demanded the money after they sacked Mutu for testing positive for cocaine in October 2004, a year after he joined from Parma for Pounds 15million.
