FOR seven years, TV presenter Amanda Lamb has advised viewers of Channel 4's property series, A Place in the Sun, where to invest abroad. But this is not without its pitfalls, as her mother, who turned a 13th century manor house in Brittany into a BB, has discovered.

"She ran the place with her partner, David, and, although the money they made in summer saw them through the winter, there was nothing left over for emergencies," says the Portsmouth-born former Scottish Widows model. The couple now plan to rent out the property instead.
