The Month of Madness for Wannabe Wits [Edition 2]

Summary


EDINBURGH is what comedians call the month of August. In a week's time, London's comedy community will decamp to Auld Reekie for a month of highs, lows, tears and sweat as we ply our trade, woo bookers and TV executives and generally try to make our dreams come true. Edinburgh locals flee their homes and rent them out to the hordes of performers making their way up north.

Almost all the comics you love to watch, from Stephen Fry to Jimmy Carr, from Eddie Izzard to Jenny Eclair, were first noticed up at the damp and glorious Edinburgh Fringe Festival. My first show up there was in 2001 with a floppy-haired comedian called Russell Brand (where is he now?).
