IN 25 years as a journalist, I have never come across a scandal like the Metropolitan Police losing Pounds 30 million of Londoners' money in the Icelandic banking collapse.
I have walked away from private and public bureaucracies wondering if anyone will take responsibility for various misdeeds. But the unnamed officials in the Met who threw away the millions were not trying to escape accountability to the public or Parliament but to their own superiors' orders.
