THE BBC jobs-for-the-lads hoohah continues. In the stocks this week is BBC1's controller Jay Hunt. It is revealed that her ex- husband and current husband have both done consultancy work for the company. Ms Hunt says she had nothing to do with the contracts appointed to either man, though, and it is relatively easy to believe her. If you are a lifelong telly person, married to a telly person, and you worked for one bit of the BBC, you're likely to have a husband who has worked for another.
If Ms Hunt (alleged pay: Pounds 280,000) really were on the fiddle, you'd think her ex-husband would have done a bit better out of it than a few thousand pounds from a training contract for the Arabic channel. Part of the problem is that because the BBC is funded through tax, people feel entitled to complain when they think they see nepotism. Nepotism in the private sector - most notably in newspapers and monarchies - is far greater but with the BBC, it's Our Money, so our hatred and envy is given the turboboost of righteous indignation.See the full content of this document
