Quirinale in Great Peter Street must have the greatest concentration of politicians per head of diners. On one lunchtime lately you could spot Margaret Jay, Stephen Byers, David Triesman (the outgoing Labour Party General Secretary), David Davies and Menzies Campbell. They should introduce text-message voting from Quirinale and save everyone the trouble of going back over to the Commons.
