But the Tory leader could not resist kicking at Labour laws that make firms give family-friendly hours to parents who try to practise what he preached.
His target was Mr Brown, architect of Labour's flexible-hours policy. And the Chancellor's reaction was brutal. An authorised Labour "source" accused Mr Cameron of knowing nothing about real life. "He's never done a day's hard work," sneered Labour.
