FOR a man who was once a hostage in Beirut in the 1990s, with only himself for company, Charles Glass is a remarkably gregarious fellow with a wealth of well-connected friends. Last night he launched his latest book, Americans in Paris, Life and Death Under Nazi Occupation 1940-44, at the Ladbroke Grove house of Lady Amabel Lindsay.
Lady Antonia Fraser was there with her son Orlando and daughter Flora. Other guests included Alexander Chancellor, Antony Beevor, Alexander Cockburn, Lord Razzall and Viv Guinness, leading some observers to believe there must have been a high-level conspiracy to get him out of his Lebanon prison.
