POLICE are planning to close the investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance without ever solving it, the Standard can reveal today.

Portugal's justice minister Alberto Costa admitted that detectives were close to winding the case up. He hinted heavily that police will never discover the little girl's whereabouts nor who took her.
