IT WAS perhaps one of those evenings when photographers should not have been allowed. When a host of literati got together for the launch of Kathy Lette's novel, the evening read like a script from an episode of Benny Hill.
With Lette leering over author John Mortimer, it was more Rumpole Pumpole than Rumpole Of The Bailey. Mortimer's character Rumpole was a fearsome barrister, so it was only appropriate that the event was held at the Courthouse Hotel in Soho. Other shocking scenes included Stephen Fry being accosted by a camp policeman and Jono Coleman's Bermuda shorts. The guests were there to promote Lette's book, How To Kill Your Husband (And Other Handy Household Hints). The Australian author, whose works include Foetal Attraction and Mad Cows, quipped: "Is killing your husband an underhand thing to do? Probably. But life has taught me a lesson on maths not taught in school: when the odds are against you, get even."See the full content of this document
