AFTER what has been a downbeat, uninspiring and depressingly predictable first half of the international summer, let's hope the forthcoming series with India invigorates us all. I can't remember a more tedious contest than the one we endured against the West Indies in which, for the most part, the quality of cricket was well below Test standard.

It is timely that the England and Wales Cricket Board are seeking a new chairman widely expected to be the present deputy, Mike Soper.
