NEW PROPOSALS to increase the bonuses for senior health service managers come at a sensitive time in the NHS. A deficit crisis, severe in some primary care trusts in London and the Southeast, has already led to thousands of redundancies. So the idea of paying chief executives and senior managers bonuses of at least 10 per cent of their salary to encourage them to meet financial targets will seem unjust to many lower-paid NHS staff.
