AS THAT loveable bygone funster Hermann Goering almost said, whenever a hairdresser opens a salon, they reach for their pun. Unlike the Reichsmarschall of the Luftwaffe, I have been amassing a collection of the kitsch-est names of these establishments (mostly spotted in the provinces), and can now bring you a selection, from the familiar "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" "Hairwaves," "A Head in Style," and "Ali Barber", to the more recent "Artistic Streak", "Hair Force", "Blow Your Top", "Curl Up and Dye", and even "Curl Up and Dai" (an impressive triple whammy from a tonsorially-inclined Welsh wag).
The only genuinely amusing one I've ever seen was outside a down- to-earth shack called "Keep Still or I'll Have Your Sodding Ears Off ", not that I'm really in any position to comment upon hair-related matters, I suppose.
