NOTORIOUS sybarite "Junket" Jack Cunningham could be about to be honoured in a surprising way. The Blair Government wants to scrap Parliament's Salisbury Convention - and name it after Cunningham instead. The Salisbury Convention, under which Tory hereditary peers agreed not to use their inbuilt majority to defeat laws mentioned in an election manifesto, was named after the 6th Marquess of Salisbury, known as Bobbety.
Now that most hereditaries have been sent to the knacker's yard, the Salisbury Convention is being redfined. This has allowed Lord Falconer - that firebrand radical disguised as a trencherman - to move to get rid of the Salisbury name.See the full content of this document
