Summary
THE charitable status of such institutions as Eton and Harrow is under discussion. In many countries it would be considered a surreal joke that schools specifically designed to perpetuate the class divide should be regarded as "charities", but here we all have to nod in agreement when the bursars and head teachers of private schools list the benefits they provide for the community at large.
