EARLY last month it was revealed that Lend Lease, the Australian construction giant chosen to build the [pounds]1 billion Olympics athletes' village, had failed to raise the [pounds]450 million of private funding it promised to deliver for the project.

In spite of this failing, no action was taken against Lend Lease by Olympic Delivery Authority chief David Higgins, who until 2005 was, of course, the head of... Lend Lease.
