Summary
DAVID Miliband made some valid points yesterday about the ineptitude of the Government's recent performance, but what's needed is not more of the same. Inordinate amounts of newsprint were wasted trying to make out there was a difference between Blair and Brown. There wasn't: Blair was the public face, Brown the architect of Labour's Thatcher-lite policies.
All of the contenders so far suggested - Straw, Harman, Johnson, Miliband, Purnell - have been integral parts of the Blair/Brown project. For Labour to win the next election, it needs a leader who will do something about the housing shortage, low pay, migrant workers' rights, the environment and civil liberties; someone less concerned about occupying the mythical centre ground, and more worried about reconnecting with the millions of traditional voters who have deserted the party because of its failure to deliver for them.See the full content of this document
