FORMER transport secretary Ruth Kelly today told of her battle for compensation after being billed more than Pounds 1,000 for "damage" to a hire car.

The Labour MP and her family hired a Volkswagen Touran from Europcar in Avignon, France, last month. But after less than an hour of driving, both right tyres went flat.
