KEANE'S defining moment came in July 2001 when guitarist Dominic Scott departed after four years of fruitless toil. The remaining trio elected not to replace him. As a result, their debut album, Hopes and Fears, is guitarless (although not bassless). Where others have guitar solos, the three from Battle have Tim Rice-Oxley's piano.
