JANA Bennett, embattled BBC director of vision, looks likely to survive the Year With The Queen fiasco thanks to the backing of director-general Mark Thompson.

She certainly has useful contacts in the right places -- in contrast to departed BBC1 controller Peter Fincham, an entertainment man. Bennett is said to have good links to Gordon Brown's gatekeeper Sue Nye, wife of ex-BBC chairman Gavyn Davies. And Bennett's husband is Richard Clemmow, managing director of indie TV firm Juniper.
