Enron boss promised to probe claims, whistleblower tells jury ENRON whistleblower Sherron Watkins, pictured, says company founder Kenneth Lay seemed to take her August 2001 allegations of false accounting seriously and promised an internal legal probe, but was even then trying to persuade investors and employees that Enron's finances were sound. Lay and former chief executive Jeffrey Skilling face multiple counts of fraud over the collapse of the energy trading giant. Watkins told jurors in the federal court in Houston, Texas, that Lay "seemed a bit sceptical that the structures could be wrong or problematic because so many people had looked at them". The case continues.
