THERE was welcome news for City bonus watchers today as Citigroup, America's largest financial services firm, said third- quarter earnings rose 35% to $7.14 billion (Pounds 4 billion), boosted by a $2.12 billion gain from the sale of an insurance business and a 35% sales increase from its investment banking operations.
