IT MAY only be a few months since Labour lost control of London, but the party is already engaged in the process of finding a personality capable of beating Boris Johnson - and perhaps more importantly, preventing Ken Livingstone from standing - for Mayor in 2012. Ken would certainly not be an ideal Labour choice whilst another hopeful, Equality Commissioner Trevor Phillips, also has a difficult relationship with the party hierarchy.

So who better to take on the blond bombshell, certain circles in the London Labour party suggest, than another telegenic TV star, with an expert knowledge of history and a good barnet? Step forward TV historian Tristram Hunt - who at 34 certainly has youth appeal.
