Summary
ONE OF THE architectural glories of London is Somerset House - now known not just for the wonderful Courtauld collection, but as the capital's finest ice-skating rink. For too long the complex was wasted on the Inland Revenue, which is belatedly vacating the buildings. Now part of the south wing seems likely to be given over to the Victoria Albert museum's remarkable collection of photography.
This would be an inspired use of space, since there is a limit to the proportion of the museum's collection that can be displayed at South Kensington. We hope that the remaining empty galleries will be similarly well-used. A new Gallery of Illustration would be one excellent option.See the full content of this document
