TORAH scrolls of Hebrew scriptures valued at about [pounds]270,000 have been stolen from a synagogue in New York. Marilyn Bagley of the Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, said rabbis discovered the eight Torahs missing at the weekend.

Police investigating the theft said there was no sign of forced entry.
