THE head of French football today welcomed FIFA's transfer ban on Chelsea and said the ruling would send a message to teams whose illegal actions were 'ruining football'.

Chelsea will pursue an appeal over the ban on registering players until January and fine of handed down yesterday for 'tapping up' Lens midfielder Gael Kakuta in . But French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes expressed his satisfaction at the decision and believes it was a warning to those who want to break the rules on transfers.
