SPECULATORS in Scottish and Southern Energy, who have been betting on an imminent foreign takeover, were sorely disappointed today when the main contender, German utility owner RWE, ruled out making a bid.
RWE boss Harry Roels, saying he was not interested in acquiring the utility, instead enthused about the opportunities in eastern Europe. SSE slid 6p to 1484p as his words reached investors, but there were plenty of other takeover rumours to numb the pain. Coalfired generator owner Drax, 19p higher at 735p, led the FTSE 100 climbers, with talk that at least three potential private-equity suitors were sniffing around.See the full content of this document
