THE transformation of East London sparked by the Olympics looks set to be fast-tracked after the Government backed the idea of spending an extra Pounds 1.5 billion.

Ministers appear to have accepted new Olympics chief David Higgins's proposal to pay for improved infrastructure now rather than provide a short-term fix for 2012, before restarting regeneration work after completion of the Games.
