PAKISTAN and India are to play a Twenty20 World Cup warm-up match at the Oval on 3 June. "We will do everything possible to ensure it goes ahead," said Surrey chief executive Paul Sheldon. Why? Why does London need this potential powder keg in our midst? Pakistani terrorists recently attacked Mumbai, meaning any game between these two countries will be full of tension, or worse.

And last week's attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore should mean not only that tours to Pakistan are cancelled, but that the Pakistan team does not play abroad for a period. How else to bring home to the government and people of Pakistan the enormity of these crimes? Pakistan will not, of course, be banned from the Twenty20 World Cup for no better reason than their absence would leave too big a gap.
