TELEVISION KEITH MEETS KEITH Channel 4, Monday MONDAY was a big day for Keith Floyd. He visited his doctor and was told that his treatment for bowel cancer was going well. It was the birthday of his companion Celia Martin too, so they went out to lunch in Lyme Regis to celebrate. Floyd enjoyed champagne cocktails, white burgundy, oysters and potted shrimps, followed by roast partridge and a Cotes du Rhone, and reported that he hadn't "felt so well in ages".

After a siesta, he complained of being "headachey" but he was still looking forward to watching himself on Keith Meets Keith, an interview recorded by Keith Allen earlier this summer. It was lucky, really, that he'd already enjoyed the show on DVD -- because he suddenly died, shortly before it came on at 10 o'clock, apparently of a heart attack. The programme was watched therefore by nearly a million people unaware that it was an obituary. A broadcasting first, perhaps.
