JUST when we thought poetry had quietened down following the row over Ruth Padel's election and resignation as Oxford Professor of Poetry and the new poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, there's another storm brewing.

Fiona Sampson, poet, translator, critic and editor of Poetry Review, has written that "there are very few women critics" and that women are "disproportionately reluctant to assume literary authority through regular reviewing."
