COULD barely stagger back to the car park with my great armfuls of gifts. In my left fist was a sack of presents destined for the reception-class teachers - coffrets a word that has only recently entered my lexicon) of scrubs and salts and soothing bubbles for each of them.
In my right hand, a large carrier bag contained the nursery staff 's gifts - more coffrets - together with something for the school secretary (scented candles; so sue me), plus a breakfast crockery set for our cleaner, a lovely Lithuanian woman with little English and (one hopes) not much china.See the full content of this document
