City Fat Cats Open Prep School for Knightsbridge Set ; Londoner's Diary

Summary

HURRY, HURRY, to put your child's name down for the latest smart prep school in London. The Knightsbridge School, the pre-prep and prep started by City millionaires Hugh Warrender, Dimitri Goulandis and William Russell, throws open its doors in Pont Street today for its first intake of 130 pupils. Fees range from Pounds 1,000 to Pounds 3,900 per term. Warrender has wisely recruited Old Etonian Magoo Giles as head master from Garden House Boys' school.

"It all started when I couldn't find a prep school with good enough languages for my daughter, who is four," Warrender tells me. "Our USP is definitely languages, which will be available from nursery age upwards. It's not an entirely philanthropic exercise, we haven't set it up as a notforprofit organisation, but are planning to set up a trust, which will grow alongside the school and eventually provide bursary places. Everything about it is keeping me awake at the moment, but I'm sure that's the same with any new school."
