TONY BLAIR today secured a face-saving victory in his diplomatic battle to secure more support for the British-led mission in Afghanistan.

After a night of intense negotiations at the 26-nation Nato summit in Riga, Alliance members agreed to lift restrictions on sending troops to the "hotspot" Helmand province where the British are spearheading the fight against the Taliban.
