Babies are not fed on demand but within a strict timetable. They are allowed to sleep for a maximum of eight hours during the day and Ford recommends blackout curtains in the nursery and a system of controlled crying at night where parents are allowed to go to the baby but not linger with it or lift it out of the cot.
