IT IS hard to say what has made the residents of Grosvenor Square happier: the news that the US Embassy is planning to move to Vauxhall or Sir Ian Blair's forced resignation.
The residents are celebrating the lifting of a massive blight from their neighbourhood, as the US Embassy in London has long been acknowledged as probably the number one terrorist target in the world. They sensibly asked that a potential disaster be prevented by the simple closure of Upper Grosvenor St and Upper Brook St to through-traffic. But, although the US Ambassador supported their call, as did the local MP, Ken Livingstone and even Sir John Stevens, the roads remain open and dangerous even today.See the full content of this document
