ECHOES of John Profumo and Christine Keeler. Boris Johnson was sacked by Tory leader Michael Howard not for having an affair with Petronella Wyatt, but for lying about it. Adultery is something Michael Howard and his wife Sandra (pictured) know about. Her first marriage was dissolved because of the adultery of her husband Robin Douglas-Home. She was subsequently married to PR man David Wynne- Morgan and advertising executive Nigel Granfield, before marrying Howard in 1975. "I don't think I ever did shock that easily, actually," she told an interviewer two weeks ago.

Sandra Howard is working on a novel about an affair between a junior minister and a newspaper editor.
