MOVING house or changing decor? Get into the recycling habit. There's no need to cart off that redundant sofa to the local tip, or to pay the council to send it to landfill. Last year, encouraged by council and community schemes, we managed to recycle an extra four per cent of the 17 million tonnes of rubbish that London's residents generate annually.

One area of recycling that has definitely taken off is the reuse of discarded furniture. If your unwanted sofa is in good condition, contact one of the 17 furniture projects in Greater London, which will collect it and pass it on to someone who needs it.
