Making a Drama Out of a Crisis ; Simon Gray Once Thought He Couldn't Write Without Drink but He has Proved Himself Wrong
The baby has a slightly averted gaze. It appears a conventional image of grey-flannelled family life circa 1946, except that Simon Gray was already a keen smoker by the time the snap was taken.
