Australian Ballet/Swan Lake Coliseum Sarah Frater DANCE I'M beginning to wish there was a ban on reworking Swan Lake. Matthew Bourne's gender-bending remake is pretty much the definitive version, although Mats Ek's weirdo take on the Tchaikovsky biggie also deserves a viewing. Apart from that, what else do you need? Certainly not The Australian Ballet's new-ish production that time- travels the old story of Swan, Prince, and Evil Spirit to a modern- day Royal family.
On paper, Graeme Murphy's interpretation looks intriguing: the Prince is newly married to the innocent Odette but his heart, and loins, belong to his mistress, Baroness von Rothbart. She's older and married, with two kids and an earthly appeal that's snared the Prince hook, line and sinker.
