MUCH excitement at the Garrick Club where they voted against allowing women as full members earlier this week. Some chaps were well disposed to allow the ladies in but the vote was lost when retired publisher David Whitaker, proposing the motion, got up to speak.
Whitaker said he had been arguing for women members since the club voted against them 17 years ago and in that time they could have welcomed several leading career women, such as Gail Rebuck, Victoria Barnsley, Kate Adie and Libby Purves.See the full content of this document
