DAVID Cameron has finally addressed the fraught subject of immigration. In his Newsnight interview, he declared that "huge numbers" of immigrants had placed "too great a burden on public services".

He wants to cap the numbers of immigrants from outside the EU to a limited annual number based not just on the skills employers need, but the pressure on services.
