IT IS tempting to think that, if the Government had invested more in supporting sustainable fuels, there would be a way out of the fuel crisis.

But even with its full weight behind meeting the EU Biofuels Directive (which sets the percentage of fuels that must be made from renewable, biological sources), it would not have resulted in cheaper prices. There never will be enough biofuel to go round.
