Summary
A PSYCHOPATH is going around beating people's heads to a pulp before putting what's left into a seethrough plastic bag. A sliver of an X-ray is left with each body. Detective Inspector Thorne soon realises that the victims have something in common: their mothers were all murdered by the same serial killer, Raymond Garvey, who has since died of a brain tumour. The race is on to find the grown-up children of Garvey's two remaining victims before the nutcase does. However, Thorne, a self-confesse"miserable git", is reeling from the loss of the baby being carried by his lover, a fellow cop. His inability to deal with the grief ultimately causes the death of a colleague.
Mark Billingham's novels, in their unblinking contemplation of violence and the way things really are, have never been cosy. Blood Line, which doesn't pull its punches, is no exception. It provides an intriguing mystery, a breathless climax and a sharp examination of family ties. Billingham is also a stand-up comedian but his jokes have not improved. Nevertheless, tales of "blood and badness" don't come much better than this.See the full content of this document
