Summary
TODAY'S evidence from the National Audit Office that many of the flagship city academies have overrun their budgets is troubling. It should not, however, be allowed to obscure the report's confirmation that these schools are improving results in some of the toughest parts of our cities.
New, well funded institutions were needed to replace the worst performing schools, taking advantage of financial backing and management input from businesses, church organisations or philanthropists, and this report does show that the academies are raising standards.See the full content of this document
