Summary
BRIAN CLOUGH is all over the papers these days thanks to the film, The Damned United, so let me put in my 10 cents. I spoke at quite a lot of events with Brian in his declining years, and his behaviour was abominable, and often psychotic. Most people think his mental instability was caused by drink, but I reckon it was the other way around.
Brian was weird way before he became an alcoholic. The line between genius and madness is a fine one, and seemingly with nothing more than the force of his own bizarre personality, Cloughie achieved huge early success as a manager. But that genius burnt out quickly, leaving only the drink and the madness.
