Summary
ON Sunday afternoon, I joined 470 others on a train trip through the Gorge to see the flood damage. Some 350 people had taken the trip in the morning. A further 400 had taken the same trip on March 22, taking the total of interested people to over 1200. One can presume that many of the folk on those trips went because they are interested in what is going on in the area around us. Viewing the slips and the damage was awe-inspiring; many thanks to the Feilding and Districts Steam Rail Society for making this possible.
What occurred to me, however, is that we had over 1200 people showing an interest in flood damage to the Gorge, yet at the various public meetings to discuss the city's 10-year draft plan (the Draft LTCCP), there have been no more than eight members of the public turn out to any one meeting.See the full content of this document
